Art Glass Flower Holder in Cornucopia Shape Ruby with Gold Flakes
This is a beautiful vintage flower holder in the shape of a cornucopia. Made of ruby glass, it has gold or mica flakes in a swirl pattern running the entire length. I say gold because the flakes are quite tiny, more like a dusting of gold than of mica flakes. This could be old (Victorian), as spangle glass with mica flakes was very popular at that time. The inside of the holder is ruby glass without flakes and the outer layer is ruby glass with flakes. The rim is ruffled (crimped). Length: 6 inches (15.3 cm). Opening: 3" (7.6 cm) wide x 3.5" (8.9 cm) long.
Condition: there are several tiny chips in the outer layer, the largest being 3 mm x 2 mm, and another area 1.5 cm long x 4 mm wide. Location: imagine the cornucopia displayed in a metal holder with the opening facing up and the curl at the tail end facing up. The wear would be on the back and on the bottom. If displayed laying down with the opening on one end and the tail at the other, the damage would be in the back. Our price reflects the damage described. This piece still displays nicely (especially lit from behind) - and can hold water and a flower (picture a white rose). This ruby holder would be a lovely addition to any traditional or contemporary home. (#550028-T)
